PV yield assessments for robust energy yield forecasts.

SolPEG assesses the long-term energy production of photovoltaic plants using suitable solar resource data, realistic plant modelling and transparent loss and uncertainty assumptions.

Solar resource & weather data

For long-term yield assessment, site-specific meteorological datasets are selected and checked for plausibility and representativeness. Depending on the project, several recognised sources are compared and weighted.

The key is not a single dataset, but a transparent assessment of data quality, long-term representativeness and suitability for the specific site.

  • Site-specific selection of suitable solar resource and weather data
  • Comparison of several recognised data sources
  • Assessment of long-term averages, trends and data quality
  • Plausibility checks of meteorological input data
  • Documentation of sources and assumptions used
02

Plant model & shading

The technical plant configuration is modelled so that geometry, components and operating conditions are represented realistically. Relevant shading is considered on a project-specific basis.

  • Module and inverter configuration
  • Orientation, tilt, row spacing and DC/AC sizing
  • Horizon and near-shading
  • 3D modelling of relevant objects where required
  • Plausibility review of layout and system parameters
03

Loss factors & simulation

Yield losses are not applied as blanket assumptions; they are technically justified and assessed for their relevance to the project. Simulations use independent professional tools.

  • Temperature, wiring and mismatch losses
  • Soiling, availability and other operational losses
  • Inverter and transformer losses
  • Assessment of clipping and system limits
  • Transparent breakdown of the loss chain
04

Yield simulation & preliminary yield estimate

Not every project requires a full yield assessment at an early stage. For early project phases, feasibility work or technical option comparisons, we also provide compact yield simulations and preliminary yield estimates.

These simulations provide technical guidance for concept and design work and do not replace a bankable yield assessment with full documentation and uncertainty evaluation.

  • Early estimate of expected energy yield
  • Comparison of layout, tilt and orientation variants
  • Assessment of different component and system concepts
  • Support for feasibility and early design decisions
  • Transparent documentation of key input assumptions

Results, P50/P90 & uncertainties

The result is not presented as a single yield figure only. Material uncertainties in data and modelling are documented transparently and, where required, incorporated into P50/P90 evaluations.

  • Long-term specific and absolute energy yield
  • Performance Ratio and loss overview
  • P50/P90 evaluation according to project requirements
  • Assessment of material uncertainty contributions
  • Clear documentation of assumptions, methods and results
06

Project development, financing & operation

Yield assessments provide a technical basis for decisions at different project stages. In addition to the yield forecast, assumptions, data sources and material sensitivities are documented so they can be understood and reviewed by project stakeholders.

Depending on the project, a site visit can complement the modelling of shading, terrain and other local influences.

  • Basis for project development and investment decisions
  • Technical basis for financing and independent project review
  • Plausibility review of design, components and plant configuration
  • Identification of technical optimisation potential and relevant sensitivities
  • Transparent description of assumptions, sources, methods and uncertainties

Bankable yield assessments

Since 2008, SolPEG has prepared independent PV yield assessments for project development, financing and investment decisions. Our reports are used by banks, investors and project developers in Germany and internationally as a technical basis for decisions.

SolPEG was included in the DKB list of recognised experts for PV yield assessments as early as 2009. The underlying quality criteria were developed at the time in technical exchange with DKB. UmweltBank also lists SolPEG as a recognised yield assessment expert.
